01 · GETTING STARTED

Your first compression, step by step

1

Read the welcome screen

Tap Get Started after reviewing the app’s three core areas: local browsing, compression, and history.

2

Choose Photo Library access

Full access lets you browse all available local videos. Limited access shows only the videos you select. The App does not request or download iCloud-only media.

3

Pick one video or select a batch

Tap a row to inspect a single video, or tap Select to choose several local videos for batch compression. Sort by date, size, duration, or resolution when needed.

4

Review the source

Check resolution, codec, frame rate, bitrate, duration, size, and HDR status before changing the output settings.

5

Set a conservative target

Choose a resolution and bitrate, leave Skip If Larger enabled, and keep the original for your first test.

6

Compress, compare, then decide

Wait for the progress screen to finish. Review the result in Photos before deleting any original video.

02 · SETTINGS

What each control means

Resolution

Original, 4K, 1080p, 720p, or 480p

Lower resolutions usually save more space but reduce visible detail. Start with 1080p for general sharing, or keep Original when resolution matters.

Bitrate

0.5–50 Mbps

Bitrate has the strongest effect on size and quality. Lower it gradually; use the estimate as guidance because complex scenes may produce a different final size.

Codec

HEVC (H.265) or H.264

HEVC is generally more space-efficient on modern Apple devices. H.264 offers wider compatibility with older devices and software.

Frame rate

Original, 60, 30, or 24 fps

Keeping the original frame rate is the safest default, especially for high-motion footage.

Skip If Larger

Recommended: On

The result is not saved when it would be larger than the source. This helps avoid wasting storage on videos that are already efficient.

Estimate

Useful, not exact

The estimate combines target video bitrate and audio bitrate. Actual VBR output varies with duration and visual complexity.

03 · ORIGINAL VIDEO

Keep first. Delete only after review.

Recommended

Keep

Saves the compressed result as a new video and leaves the source untouched. Use this for your first compression and any important recording.

Photos edit

Replace

Applies a non-destructive Photos edit to the same asset. Apple Photos may retain original data so the edit can be reverted; do not rely on this option alone to free storage.

After review

Delete

Saves a new compressed copy, then asks iOS to delete the original. Confirm only after checking playback, quality, audio, orientation, and the saved file.

04 · HISTORY

Track results without touching your media

History stores local technical details about completed compressions so you can compare sizes and locate the original and compressed assets. Clearing History removes only those local records; it does not delete videos from Photos.

RememberIf an asset is no longer stored on the device, EZVideo Manager will not download it from iCloud just to display or process it.
